Whether you're interested in mixing music for fun or pursuing a career as a DJ, this course will teach you the essential skills you need to get behind the decks with confidence.
In this online course, you’ll learn:

  • Music Phasing
The structure of electronic dance music is outlined, focusing on the importance of four beats in a bar and changes every eight bars. Key concepts include DJ-friendly intros, energy management, and effective transitions, along with techniques for mixing tracks using Rekordbox.
  • Downloading Music
Music plays a vital role in DJing, particularly in underground dance music. Beatport is a key platform for exploring music genres. DJs should listen to tracks and create a cart to discover their preferred styles. Proper file storage is important for both PC and Mac users. Understanding genre compatibility enhances set dynamics. Alternative sources like Bandcamp and SoundCloud offer more options, while file format affects sound quality. DJ City provides clean track versions, and mashup.com helps find creative remixes.
  • Finding The First Beat
Teaching DJing emphasizes the importance of auditory skills, starting with ear training before visual cues. Identifying the first beat is vital, and using cue points aids in alignment. Maintaining rhythm through tapping is essential, while careful listening is necessary for track alignment. Headphones play a crucial role in precise mixing, boosting confidence during performances.
  • Using The Mixer, Basic EQ and Blends
Learn the fundamentals of EQ and mixing techniques with a focus on a four-channel mixer. Understand the significance of high, mid, and bass frequencies while blending tracks. Discover methods for managing bass and using headphones effectively. Explore transition techniques that maintain rhythm and timing, and recognize the importance of practice for smooth execution. Finally, grasp the process of seamless mixing to ensure new sounds replace old ones without gaps.
  • Understanding BPM
Mixing tracks requires knowledge of BPM and the ability to control speed using pitch faders. It involves measuring BPM, adjusting speeds, and training the ears for effective mixing. Key techniques include identifying the slower deck and synchronizing beats. Practicing under pressure enhances skills, while finalizing the mix ensures perfect timing. A thorough review of the routine reinforces the learning process.
  • The Full process
Start by setting up headphones and playing a track while adjusting lights and checking beats. Beat matching involves dropping beats on time and pushing tracks forward. Create buildups with effects like reverb and delays, and adjust bass levels while switching tracks. Blend tracks seamlessly and prepare for future lessons, with an invitation to join the intermediate course for advanced techniques and effects.

With easy-to-follow video lessons, you'll have everything you need to begin practicing and perfecting your DJ skills from the comfort of your own home.
